Ah, summer — that time of warmth, sunshine, and endless opportunities for fun and relaxation. For surrogates, it’s also a season to cherish and celebrate the incredible journey they’re on!

At Open Arms, we understand that being a surrogate is both rewarding and challenging, and we want to help you make the most of your summer. Here are some wonderful ways to enjoy the sunny season while embracing your special role!

1. Enjoy Nature

Being pregnant doesn’t mean you’re stuck inside all day! Enjoying nature gives you a chance to be physically active and to relax in the peace of the great outdoors. Take leisurely walks in the park, explore nature trails, or enjoy a picnic with your loved ones. Fresh air and gentle exercise are great for both you and the baby. Just remember to stay hydrated (especially if you’re one of our amazing Florida surrogates) and protect yourself from the sun with a good hat and sunscreen.

2. Relax by the Water

Whether it’s a beach, lake, or even a pool, spending time by the water can be incredibly refreshing. Swimming is a low-impact exercise that can help relieve pregnancy-related aches and pains. If you prefer to stay dry, simply lounging by the water with a good book or your favorite music can be equally enjoyable.

3. Savor the Summer Foods

Summer brings a host of delicious fruits and vegetables. From fresh berries, melons, and salads, there’s so much nutrient-rich foods to enjoy. Treat yourself to some homemade popsicles or smoothies – they’re a perfect way to stay cool and satisfy any sweet cravings.

4. Embrace Creative Hobbies

This summer, why not explore your creative side? Try your hand at painting, knitting, sewing, or scrapbooking. These activities can be incredibly soothing and a great way to pass the time. Plus, you might create something beautiful to commemorate your surrogacy journey!

5. Hang Out with Family

If you’re a surrogate, you know how important spending time with your support network can be. This can be hanging out with your family or your “chosen family” — those friends who become our family through the years. Think about having a family picnic, movie night, or an afternoon out for lunch. 

Spending time with loved ones this summer also gives you more room to share your journey with the people who love you. Your role as a surrogate is a gift not just to the intended parents, but also to your own family who witness your generosity.

6. Pamper Yourself

Don’t forget to take some time just for you! Book a prenatal massage, enjoy a spa day, or simply take long, relaxing baths at home. Pampering yourself is important for your well-being and helps you stay centered and calm.

7. Connect with Other Surrogates

The Open Arms Facebook & Instagram pages are great ways you can share and connect with other surrogates in the area and beyond. Sharing experiences, tips, and stories can provide immense camaraderie. There are also amazing groups IRL that you can find in your area who can provide support. You might make lifelong friends who understand exactly what you’re going through!

8. Encourage Others to Join the Journey
